Rivers Govt Reacts Over Accusation of Denied C of O to OPM Church chiomaandy.com
Apostle Chinyere blessing and endorsing Nyesom Wike

Rivers State Government says there is no truth in the claim made by the General Overseer of Omega Power Ministry (OPM), Apostle Chibuzor  Chinyere, that the State Government denied his church Certificate of Occupancy (C of O).

Rivers State Commissioner for Lands and Survey, Ezemonye Ezekiel Amadi made the clarification while fielding questions from journalists.
He described the claim as not only misleading but also malicious and ungodly.

“I can say unequivocally that neither Reverend Chibuzor Chiyere as a person nor his church the OPM, has applied for C of O to the Rivers State Government for any property anywhere in the world. When you apply for C of O, you fill a form and a file will be opened for that application. I challenge him to present to the world the file reference number for his application or let him show to the world, a copy of application form, with which he applied for C of O. It is ungodly, I find it disturbing for a reverend gentleman like him to make such false claims”, Amadi said.

He also requested the man of God to show proof that his church applied for the said C of O.
“As I speak to you, there is no application for C of O lying anywhere in the ministry from Reverend Chinyere Chibuzor or the OPM. As far as I am concerned, Reverend Chibuzor and his congregation have the fundamental right to associate with anybody. They are free to vote for anybody or candidate of their choice but to play politics with their vote is very ungodly. They can go ahead and vote for any candidate and support who they want to support but should not be based on false report”, he added.

The general overseer of OPM had some days declared that he and his church members would support the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the state, Chief Nyesom Wike, who has assured of signing people’s C of O once he takes over from Governor Chibuike Amaechi.

Guess What Made Julius Agwu Quit Governorship Ambition? chiomaandy.com

It may sound funny but it's true. One of Nigeria's oldest and beloved comedian/actor/singer, Julius Agwu have told us the reason he quit his ambition of becoming Rivers State Governor in the 2015 general elections.
At first many thought it was him doing one of the things he does best; comedy and jokes.

But when Julius would not concede to calls on him to stop the joke and be serious, he continued with his quiet campaigns on radio and television. So when he finally decided to let the sleeping dogs lie by throwing in the towel, we thought we had guessed right that he was never serious.

But Julius in a chat recently actually said that what made him give up his dreams was because of mum. Read it after the cut...

"When my mum heard of my political ambition, she called me to confirm and i said it was true. She cried on the phone and told me to drop my ambition and leave it for the politicians before they kidnap her and demand for ransom. I had to oblige my mother's request," Julius said.

Police Arrives Rivers In Search of Illegal Arms chiomaandy.com
A team of policemen have arrived Okrika and Ogu/Bolo Local Government Areas of Rivers State in search of illegal arms and ammunition from hoodlums.

The policemen, who arrived on Tuesday, said they were in the state to conduct a stop and search operation in the areas among other security objectives.

Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 6 Calabar, Tunde Ogunsakin, told newsmen at a press conference in Port Harcourt, that the force was ready to clampdown on anybody found with illegal weapons.

Ogunsakin said he heard information that illegal weapons were going round in Okrika and Ogu/Bolo Local Government Areas.
He said: “Part of the measures we have put in place is stop and search point in strategic areas in Okrika and Ogu/Bolo Local Government Areas. We are looking for arms and ammunition that are in very wrong hands. So, we are carrying out this search in peace. We heard information that these things (arms) are going on and people are taking them around.

“I can tell you that the police is on top of the situation. We will clampdown on those who are with illegal arms,” Ogunsakin said.
While meeting with relevant stakeholders in the areas, Ogunsakin said the essence was to ensure that all live in peace in their communities.

“What we did this morning was to call all the stakeholders which include: religious leaders, political party members, all the elders of Ogu/Bolo and Okrika. They all came here this morning and we discussed on how to ensure that the communities live in peace among themselves as well as to carry out their politicking in a peaceful manner,” he added.

Riding on ‘Okada’ can Cause High Blood Pressure, Kidney Disorders, Impotence, Others

Riding on ‘Okada’ can Cause High Blood Pressure, Kidney Disorders, Impotence, Others chiomaandy.com

In Nigeria, commercial motorcycle popularly referred to as ‘Okada’ has helped many people over come traffic delays, maneuver bad non-motorable routes, enjoy fresh air while mobile and other things. But in what seemed like a means of enjoyment and one of the preferred mean of transportation in Nigeria, experts in the medical have spelt out some of the danger associated with okada riding.
Tribune newspaper says more…

In this part of the world where our transportation system leaves much to be desired, motorcycles, commonly called okada, are a necessary evil. This is not unconnected with the fact that they are a quick means of transport, they are efficient in mitigating traffic jams which most cities are renowned for, they get to areas which are ordinarily unmotorable and they are available throughout day and night hours. Since their introduction into the country and use for commercial purposes, they have continued to increase exponentially and based on this, the cases of motorcycle accidents have equally skyrocketed.

A visit to the Accident and Emergency wards of hospitals, especially teaching hospitals, in cities where okadas are still in operation, would attest to the fact that the occupational risk of this group of people should indeed be a source of concern.
According to Dr Ademola Ajibade, a medical practitioner, “motorcycle injuries are among the leading causes of disability and deaths and the main victims are the motorcyclists, passengers and pedestrians in their young reproductive age group. In fact, motorcycle accidents are far more likely than other vehicular accidents. Motorcycle riders are the most vulnerable groups of road users.”

The reason for this may not be far-fetched. Motorcyclists, especially the young ones, tend to speed too much and overload their motorcycles for quick returns and they are usually reckless, undisciplined and have a lack of respect for other road users. Dr Ajibade adds that the majority of them don’t wear any protective gear, including helmets and this aggravates the risks of getting severe head injuries and even death in the event of an accident.
Saturday Tribune findings revealed that some of the reasons for non-compliance with the use of protective gear and the practice of safe road use among motorcycle riders included ignorance of the importance of the use of protective gear, a general disposition towards lawlessness, lack of education on proper road use and traffic laws, the cost of the gears as well as the abuse of drugs and use of alcohol.

Besides the obvious risk of accidents which motorcycle riders and their passengers are exposed to, there are other concerns that they should make conscious efforts to consider in order to enjoy optimal health at their occupation.
One health hazard associated with okada riding, especially for long periods at a time, is the exposure to pollutants, especially from their motorcycles and other vehicles on the road. According to experts, motorcycle riders are exposed to pollutants such as nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, volatile organic compounds and particulate matter in ambient air, and these may affect lung function. It has been discovered that the inhalation of these automobile pollutants can cause respiratory problems.

Moreover, extreme vibrations due to the performance of the motorcycle engine, improper structural design of the motorcycle (evident in the type of seating and type of suspension), bad road conditions, age of the motorcycle are also potential sources of health problems. Experts state that the human body can tolerate certain levels of vibrational energy but starts to deteriorate and cause long-term damage and disruption of the natural processes of the body at other levels of vibration. These vibrations are transmitted to the buttocks and back along the vertical axis via the base and back of the seat. On the other hand, the pedals and handle transmit additional vibrations to the feet and hands of the rider. During motorcycle riding, due to its unbalancing nature, it creates enormous vibration and affects the bioelectric phenomena.

A study of “Vibration and its effect on health of the motorcycle rider” published in the April-June 2010 edition of Online Journal of Health and Allied Sciences pointed out that at varying frequencies of vibrations, certain health effects can occur ranging from motion sickness, chest and abdominal pain, backache, intestine and bladder problems to degradation in visual functions. These vibrations are in the form of Hand Arm Vibrations and Whole Body Vibrations. Health effects that associated with Whole Body Vibration and especially the driving environment have been discovered to include piles, high blood pressure, kidney disorders and impotence.

Where vehicles provide protection against harsh weather conditions through the presence of windscreens, okadas lack such and as a result, their riders are exposed to extreme weather “They ride in the scorching sun, windy weather and sometimes even in the rain and most times, without the proper protective clothing. Protective gear do not stop at helmets. They also include high-visibility vests, boots, gloves. Not only are helmets supposed to protect the head in the case of accidents, they are also there to protect the face from the wind, flying objects and insects which could enter the eyes, nose or ears,” Dr Ajibade said.

Also importantly is the increased risk of reproductive problems. A Japanese study of 234 avid motorcyclists between the ages of 20 and 60 found significantly higher Erectile Dysfunction (ED) across all age ranges compared to a control group. Among bikers aged 50 to 59, 93 per cent had ED, compared to 42 per cent of the controls. A subsequent study of 150 Japanese motorcyclists by the same authors also found that not only was the rate of ED more than three times greater among motorcyclists than the control group, but there was a clear link between their ED and other lower urinary tract disorders.
The likeliest culprit was constant vibration from both the engine and the road.
Physical strain is also an issue to grapple with. “The physical strain can cause problems with joints such as knees and wrists. When riding a motorcycle, the body position constricts regular blood flow to the feet, ankles and knees, depending on the type of bike design. This is why you sometimes notice swelling on the feet of okada riders who drive for long periods. Appropriate compression socks can help to improve leg circulation, lowering swelling while riding,” Dr. Irene Bassey, general practitioner at Orbitals Clinic, Lagos State, said.

Though they have been banned in some states, they still pose a significant health and safety risk in places where they are operational and moreso, where there is no insistent on the use of protective gear. According to Mr. Temiloluwa Gbarada, a health, safety and environment professional, “Whenever one is on an okada, the miracle is that one arrives at his place of destination in one piece. From a safety perspective, okadas, by default, are an accident waiting to happen. In risk assessment safety standards, riding or being a passenger on an okada is way above the acceptable risk limit because it’s not balanced, there is no protective covering (like a windscreen) and because of their size, they are most often ignored by other vehicle users. If at all, it has to be used, then personal protective equipment like helmets and full body protective clothing (padded) should be worn.”

Leaders of Okrika Local Government Area have banned political rallies in their area following the incessant political crisis in their land that eventually led to the death of a policeman recently.
Spokesman of the leaders, Mathew Amabebe, who made this known to newsmen at the end of their town hall meeting, also used the medium to commiserate with the police officer who lost his life during an All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship rally in the area on February 17.

“The whole town commiserates with the family of the policeman who died. Because of what has happened, there should be no rally until further notice because of the violent attitude of the parties.”
“Also, while parties are free to talk on issues, they should refrain from insulting personalities and institutions,” Amabebe said.

On his part, a former leader of Niger Delta militants, Ateke Tom said he is in support of the decision of the entire Okrikans that no political rally should take place in their land, no matter the party involved.
He said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has done its governorship rally in Okrika as well as the APC.
“The problem that engulfed that of the APC is what the people of Okrika do not want any more. When my town has spoken, I have spoken. APC and PDP, no rally in Okrika,” Tom said.

NMA Rivers State Member Dies at the Den of Abductors chiomaandy.com

The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), in Rivers State, has confirmed the death of one of its members, Dr. Sam Opara, after he was abducted by unknown gunmen last week.

The deceased was a medical doctor at a D/Line clinic in Port Harcourt, the state capital.
The chairman of NMA in the state, Dr. Furo Green, told newsmen that the police confirmed the death of Dr. Sam Opara yesterday and informed him of the development.

Green said that according to the police, Sam Opara may have died on Sunday February 22, with his body transported to an undisclosed location in Borokiri, Port Harcourt.

“Dr. Sam Opara has been confirmed dead. The police confirmed it yesterday and then reached me. By this morning, his son has gone to the morgue to confirm that the body the police had earlier confirmed with photograph was the body of his father. The police confirmed that it looks like he died on Sunday and his body was transported to somewhere in Borokiri behind Comprehensive Secondary School,” Green said.

Following the incessant abduction of medical doctors in the state, NMA met with Governor Rotimi Amaechi as well as security chiefs in the state recently to put an end to this menace.

The governor assured the medical practitioners at the end of the meeting that measures had been put in place to stop the abduction of not only doctors but also all Rivers people in the state.

He said the body of their deceased colleague has been deposited in the morgue.

Could This Be the Man Responsible for Nadia Buari's Twin Babies? chiomaandy.com
I put the caption in question mark because I like many others want to know who the father of Ghana's beautiful actress, Nadia Buari's twin babies are.
Nadia has been hiding her recently welcomed twin babies as well their father from the world, leaving us to wonder who the father is.
Also at the back of our minds is the thought of what happened between her and Jim Iyke who she was in an open romance with. Many of us didn't even know they have broken their love relationship, the next thing  we heard is that Nadia has given birth to a set of twins.

The picture above is Nadia Buari with a man suspected to be her babies' daddy. It is not yet confirmed but her mother, Caddy Buari, posted the picture online and wrote: I'm totally obsessed with how he's obsessed with her. #mycutiepatootie.'

INEC REC in Rivers Discourages Rumour Mongering...NYSC Calls for Better Welfare of Corp Members chiomaandy.com
Gesila Khan

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Resident Electoral Commissioner in Rivers State, Gesila Khan, has advised politicians and some Rivers people to stop peddling falsehood over Saturday April 11, elections.
She said that rumour mongering which has become prominent in some political parties in the state was not in the interest of the people of the state.

She said: “I will still reemphasise that my good people of Rivers State should desist from rumour mongering. Rumour mongering does not help anybody and it does not do the society any good. When people are not properly informed it can lead to violence, it can lead to distrust and many other things. INEC office is a public office.

"Members of political parties are free to come into this office, make their enquiries, rather than just carrying their stories that are not correct and cause more confusion and problems for us. INEC is here to serve the public," she added.

In the meantime, the National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) in Rivers State has accused INEC of failure to make adequate preparation for corp members recruited as adhoc staff for the Saturday election in the state.

NYSC’s Director in Rivers State, Ngozi Nwatarali, made the accusation at a meeting with head of security agencies and governorship candidates.

Nwatarali said many corp members were sceptical about participating in Saturday’s election due to the poor preparation for their remuneration by INEC.

“Please they should protect our corp members. I wish to discourage what happened especially the abduction in which some corp members were abducted and some beaten, some had to run into the bush and slept in the bush. Some slept in police stations because there were no vehicles to convey them. And so for two days running they couldn’t take their bath. They couldn’t eat because they were not provided with logisitics that were necessary for them to be at least a little comfortable to do their job.

“Let the wife of the president remain in her house. She should not foist a candidate on us. We the people of Rivers State will decide who our next governor will be. The governor called on all to be vigilant and added that members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), would not vote in all the 23 local governments if they do not see the result sheets.

“We will not vote if we don’t see the result sheets. Ask the INEC officials for the result sheets. If they fail to produce them, then form a human ring round the INEC officials and together with the security men escort the ad-hoc staff to the local government headquarters and lodge your complaints. But make sure nobody votes in any unit that cannot produce the original result sheets. We will not accept photocopies.”

“We will do what we do in our village: we call it the Obima formula. Our youths usually lock down the village. No one comes in and no one goes out. I am pleading that INEC should not endanger the lives of its staff by holding on to the original result sheets,” Amaechi said.
